What is Craniosacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy is a healing modality that
uses very light touch to bring the cranial system back into
balance and therefore assists in balancing the whole body. When
applied correctly this gentle and subtle technique can be highly
effective in addressing a number of conditions in both animals
and humans.
The cranial rhythm (the rhythm of the
cranial waves) is said to cycle between 8-14 cycles per minute
and can be palpated anywhere on the body. The cranial rhythm is
different from that of the heartbeat and the breathing rate.
When an injury or trauma occurs, it gets
‘stuck’ in the tissue of the animal and is stored in the cell
memory of the tissue until released. A Craniosacral practitioner
is taught to sense any restrictions in the Craniosacral system.
By palpating the cranial wave on different areas of the animal,
a practitioner can tell where there is healthy movement or lack
of movement. This is similar to an acupuncturist palpating the
flow of energy through meridian pathways. The practitioner or
healer learns specific hands-on techniques to palpate the
cranial wave anywhere on the animal’s body, thus assisting the
body to correct itself. The body has an incredible self-healing
mechanism.
All animals can benefit, though with some
the improvement may be more dramatic than with others. Because
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) builds health in the brain and
nervous system, it is excellent for prevention of chronic
conditions. CST also addresses injuries, even ones that occurred
long ago.
I have found Craniosacral Therapy
helpful for the following health and behavioural problems:
Arthritis
Accidents
Blocked tear ducts
Colic
Emotional problems
Facial nerve
paralysis
Head injuries
Head shaking
Hip Dysplasia
Irritable bowel
syndrome
Lameness
Post stroke
Pre and post
surgery
Post dental work
Spinal injuries
Stress
Trauma (including
car accidents)
TMJ Dysfunction
